Waves Group Helps TenneT to Successfully Deliver Borssele Alpha and Beta OSS Platforms
July 6, 2020
We are pleased to announce our involvement in the successful delivery and completion of the Borssele Alpha and Beta Offshore Substation (OSS) platform projects which are nearing full operation with the Beta platform due to finish commissioning later this month. The projects owned by TenneT TSO, are the first large-scale grid connections to be constructed under the National Energy Agreement for offshore wind farms in The Netherlands and will be the largest AC substations in the world.
Waves Group provided Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) services for the Offshore High Voltage Substation (OHVS) on both projects for the Dutch offshore grid operator TenneT TSO. Our scope of work included the transportation and offshore installation of the two Offshore Substation (OSS) platforms and the installation of the four Export Cables.
The OSS platforms and export cables for both projects have now all been installed with hook up work on the Beta platform expected to be completed this summer. The Borssele Alpha and Borssele Beta substations will collect the electricity generated at the 752MW Borssele 1 and 2 and 731MW Borssele 3 and 4 offshore wind farms respectively, which will feed it into the Dutch grid.
Located in the Dutch North Sea, the wind farms have the capacity to generate power to over 1.8 million Dutch households. Borssele 1 and 2 is owned and being developed by Ørsted and 3 and 4 by Blauwwind consortium which includes Partners Group (45%), Shell (20%), Diamond Generating Europe (DGE, 15%), Eneco Group (10%), and Van Oord (10%).
We are pleased to be involved in the successful delivery of these projects which will contribute significantly to the Dutch government’s green initiative.
Waves Group have for the past 15 years been supplying MWS services and have assisted on a significant number of offshore wind farm and subsea power cable projects across UK, Europe and the APAC region, delivering power to households across the globe. Our team have experience in the development of offshore wind farms ranging from multi-billion-euro projects through to individual demonstrator units, including floating wind turbines. Our projects have included monopile jacket foundations, wind turbines (towers, blades and nacelles), offshore sub-stations and sub-sea power cables – including the laying and burying of high voltage AC and DC submarine power cables (including intercontinental cables, interconnectors, renewable energy export and array cables).
