Waves Group goes French with St. Brieuc Offshore Wind Farm Grid Connection Marine Warranty Win
April 3, 2023
In 2021, Waves Group was awarded the Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) services scope from Réseau de Transport d’Electricité (RTE) for the installation of two Export cables for the St Brieuc Offshore Wind Farm grid connection, one of the first commercial-scale offshore wind projects in France.
Located some 16.3km off the coast of St Brieuc Bay in France, the wind farm will cover an approximate area of 75 km² and have a total generating capacity of 496MW. The 62 wind turbines are estimated to supply 835,000 people with renewable energy.
The two 225kV Export Cables totalled 67km at sea and will transport electricity from the Offshore Substation to the national French grid at the La Doberie Onshore Substation.
Preparation was performed over winter 2021-2022, with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) from the landfall transition bays towards the beach and HDPE pipe installation and burial to allow the export cables to pass under the beach safely.
Offshore operations started in 2022, with the installation of the cables from the Nexans Skaggerak CLV followed by protection operations. The works were completed at the start of 2023.
Waves Group is pleased to have been involved in this project which further highlights our position as a leading offshore marine consultancy within the offshore wind sector.
