Nigel is a Master Mariner with a broad base of seagoing experience on container vessels and dry bulk carriers. He has also sailed on oil, gas and chemical tankers and is experienced in ice navigation. He is a Lloyd’s Special Casualty Representative (SCR) and a Director, with primary responsibility for marine casualties, claims, disputes and litigation.

He has extensive experience within all aspects of maritime casualty response, salvage, wreck removal, incident management and investigations. His portfolio includes the technical and commercial risk assessments in conjunction with the management of tenders for complex wreck removal operations. He has also managed tenders, and has recent experience within the oil and gas industry in the decommissioning of offshore platforms.

He has submitted expert witness reports for arbitration and to the High Court of Justice in London for major marine casualties, cargo and vessel damage claims involving containers, dry bulk cargos and petrochemical products, unsafe ports, port business interruption, vessel charter party and ice damage disputes. Nigel worked both at sea and onshore within the container industry and has an in-depth knowledge of container operations, including port operations and intermodal logistics throughout the supply chain.

His marine warranty experience includes oil, gas and renewable energy projects, jacket and topside installation and decommissioning, towage approvals, pipe-lay and shore-pull operations, offshore drilling, dive support, supply and heavy-lift vessels, anchor handling tugs and jack-up barges. He holds valid offshore medical and safety certification.

Nigel is also experienced working within a flag state authority. He is an approved inspector and casualty investigator, and has regularly attended IMO at sub-committee meetings.
