Nigel is a Marine Engineer holding a Class 1 Combined Certificate of Competency for Steam and Motor engines. He has over 40 years’ experience in the maritime industry, with 20 years spent at sea sailing on large crude oil tankers, products tankers, and LNG vessels as a Chief Engineer.
He continued his career ashore joining the BP Shipping Fleet Management team as Technical Superintendent where he gained extensive experience in ship operations, maintenance, safety management and incident investigation on crude oil tankers and more recently Membrane type LNG vessels.
Nigel had the opportunity to work in Abu Dhabi for a period of 4 years as Senior LNG Technical Superintendent, working within the BP Shipping office for the National Gas Shipping Company providing technical expertise, purchasing and operations management of four Moss type LNG carriers.
He has extensive vessel drydock experience having drydocked more than 20 vessels, including VLCC, Product tankers and LNG vessels in repair yards in Singapore, Dubai, Spain and Portugal. He is also experienced with providing technical support for vessel repairs, preparing repair specifications, tender negotiations, and yard management.
Additionally, Nigel has extensive experience as a Newbuild Delivery Superintendent having delivered 14 vessels, including crude oil and product/chemical tankers for BP Shipping from yards in Japan, South Korea and Romania.
His extensive technical expertise and knowledge covers both steam and motor propulsion systems, with more than 10 years’ operating Steam and DFDE propulsion LNG vessels.
